Public-Key Infrastructure

Public-key infrastructure (PKI) encompasses a set of policies, procedures, and software-hardware combinations required to authenticate users and devices in online environments. It involves trusted parties digitally signing documents or decentralized ledgers to certify the association of specific cryptographic keys with particular users or devices. PKIs play a critical role in creating, managing, distributing, using, and storing digital certificates and facilitating public-key encryption.
