Operating System (OS)
An operating system (OS) is a software that oversees and coordinates a multitude of tasks within a computer system, facilitating its functioning. It takes charge of managing both the hardware and software components of the computer, providing essential services for computer programs to operate smoothly. Operating systems are responsible for crucial functions such as memory and disk management, program loading and execution, device booting, process management, ensuring data security and privacy, controlling external devices, and presenting a user-friendly interface (UI) for seamless interaction. Well-known examples of computer operating systems include Microsoft’s Windows and Apple’s macOS, as well as mobile phone operating systems like Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS.
