Ethereum Consensus Layer
Ethereum Consensus Layer, previously known as Ethereum 2.0, refers to a series of updates aimed at enhancing the scalability, efficiency, and overall utility of the Ethereum blockchain. The comprehensive package of upgrades, officially called Serenity, introduces a shift from the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus algorithm, which relies on computational mining, to a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm that leverages validator staking. By implementing PoS and partitioned shard chains, Ethereum Consensus Layer aims to achieve the necessary transactional scale to operate as a global supercomputer.
