Collateral

Collateral refers to an asset offered as security when obtaining a loan, which may be forfeited in case of default, where the borrower is unable to repay the loan. In decentralized finance (DeFi) lending platforms, borrowers must secure their loans by locking tokens as collateral. Upon full repayment of the loan, the collateral is released and returned to the borrower.
