Ubik Capital Retrospective on ICON Network
From ICONSENSUS ambassadors and P-Rep testnets in 2019 to ICON’s March 26, 2026 economic shutdown and migration era.
For Ubik Capital, ICON was never just another network on a validator page. It was one of the ecosystems where our operating model was built in public: early participation, technical execution, community communication, and governance responsibility.
This retrospective is a full-cycle look at that journey, from the early ICONSENSUS era in 2019 to the transition phase announced by ICON Foundation in 2026. It is less a victory lap and more an honest timeline of how a validator team contributes through different phases of a network’s life.
Where It Started: ICONSENSUS and Early Testnets

Ubik Capital’s ICON chapter started in spring 2019, when team members joined ICONSENSUS-facing efforts and worked directly with the community around decentralization. That period included early public updates such as Another ICONSENSUS Ambassador has joined Ubik Capital Team and One of our team members was appointed as Ambassador for ICONSENSUS Campaign.
At the same time, the focus was operational from day one. Ubik participated in the early P-Rep testnet cycle, documented through Phase 1 for ICON P-Rep TestNet has ended and ICON P-Rep TestNet 2nd Phase has started. In practice, this was the period where resilient multi-region node operations and uptime discipline became non-negotiable for us.
The P-Rep Years: Education, Infrastructure, Governance

As ICON moved deeper into its delegated governance era, Ubik’s contribution model expanded into three connected areas: making staking understandable, keeping infrastructure dependable, and treating governance as real protocol work rather than branding.
On the education side, we published a sequence of practical guides and explainers, including Overview of Staking on ICON Network, ICONSENSUS and the election of P-Reps, Overview of ICON P-Rep Candidates, and ICX Staking FAQs. The goal was simple: reduce confusion for ICX holders and improve delegation quality across the ecosystem.
On the technical and governance side, we openly shared operating principles via UBIK Capital Node Monitoring and Alerting Strategy and proposed structured improvements in UBIK Capital ICON Governance Proposals for Network Enhancement. Together, these reflected a long-view validator mindset: reliability first, transparency always, and governance with accountability.
Even ecosystem-facing initiatives such as our Breadcrmb DApp recognition in ICON’s Got Talent fit that same pattern: contribute publicly, ship useful things, and stay close to users.
Keeping ICON Practical for Users
As market cycles changed, the work became less about campaign energy and more about continuity. A good example is How to Stake ICX on ICON Network (April 30, 2023), which kept onboarding practical around wallet choice and delegation flow. That kind of content tends to look simple, but it is often what keeps non-technical users participating safely.
2026 Transition: End of Emissions, Not End of Chain

On February 6, 2026, ICON Foundation published ICON Network Phased Halt to Emissions, setting a transition timeline that included key dates: February 16 (bond requirement removal), March 2 (infrastructure prep), March 16 (stake redistribution), March 23 (network shrinkage), and March 26, 2026 (economic shutdown, including ICX emissions halt and reward cessation).
That announcement was also echoed socially via the referenced X post. The important nuance, and one that is often misunderstood, is that this phase describes the end of the original emission-driven validator economy, not an immediate hard “network off” event. ICON Foundation explicitly states that the blockchain remains live during the migration window.
What ICON Left in Ubik’s Operating DNA

From 2019 to 2026, ICON gave Ubik Capital a complete validator lifecycle to operate through: early testnet bootstrap, P-Rep era execution, education-first communication, governance participation, and eventually protocol transition. Each phase demanded a different kind of discipline, and that is exactly why the ICON chapter matters.
If there is one consistent theme across those years, it is this: validators create the most value when they combine technical reliability with clear public communication. That approach continues to define how we operate across Proof-of-Stake networks today.
