Soft Fork
A soft fork refers to a software update in a blockchain network that maintains backward compatibility, allowing the updated software to remain interoperable with the older legacy system. This means that nodes can continue to communicate with nodes that have not undergone the update. In contrast, a hard fork recognizes only new blocks generated after the fork as valid. Consequently, soft forks generally involve less significant protocol changes compared to hard forks.
