Snapshot
In the context of blockchain, a “snapshot” has multiple meanings. Generally, it refers to the ability to record the current state of a blockchain network during a specific time period. Often, a snapshot is taken at a particular block to capture the entire history of the ledger up to that point, including data such as transactions, existing addresses and balances, metadata, and more. Snapshot can also refer to a dataset that records the balance of each user’s blockchain address to fairly distribute tokens during a token airdrop giveaway or token distribution event, such as an Initial Exchange Offering (IEO).
