SMS (Short Message Service)

SMS, or Short Message Service, is the primary text messaging format used by most mobile phones worldwide. It employs standardized communication protocols, allowing mobile devices to send and receive short text messages of up to 160 characters in length. SMS also enables users to send messages to landlines through an intermediary service. The first SMS was sent in December 1992, and by 2010, SMS became the most widely used data application with approximately 3.5 billion active users, constituting about 80% of all global mobile devices.
