Shard Chain

July 9, 2026BY yasser

Shard chains come into existence by dividing a blockchain into smaller, more manageable units known as shards. This division significantly eases the workload on validator nodes, as each node becomes responsible for handling only one shard rather than the entire blockchain system. By implementing shard chains and other optimizations, blockchain networks can experience remarkable enhancements in network throughput and speed compared to traditional monolithic consensus mechanisms. For instance, Ethereum’s Consensus Layer (formerly Ethereum 2.0) incorporates 64 shards connected to a Beacon Chain, with Ethereum Execution Layer (formerly Ethereum 1.0) serving as one of these individual shards.
