Rootkit
A rootkit is a type of Trojan malware specifically designed to obtain unauthorized root or administrative access to a targeted device or network. These malicious programs are engineered to subvert security software and typically incorporate a range of tools that facilitate activities such as stealing personal information, causing harm, or gaining complete control over the compromised device. Rootkits are notorious for their elusive nature, making them difficult to detect and eliminate. In some instances, the most effective resolution is to reinstall the entire operating system of the compromised device.
