A mining algorithm is a cryptographic puzzle that forms part of a Proof-of-Work (PoW) blockchain. It typically requires substantial computational power to solve, contributing to network security. Miners who successfully solve these puzzles receive mining rewards, incentivizing their participation in securing the network. Well-known mining algorithms include secure hash algorithms (SHAs) like SHA-256 and SHA-3, as well as Ethash, Scrypt, and Equihash.
