Megabyte (MB)
A megabyte (MB) is a metric unit used to measure the capacity of digital data storage, equivalent to approximately 1,000,000 bytes. While bytes are the foundational unit for data storage, megabytes provide a larger scale for quantifying information. The use of kilobytes (KBs), gigabytes (GBs), and terabytes (TBs) further extends the measurement range for larger data quantities. These measurements are standardized using the International System of Units (SI). Megabytes are widely adopted as a convenient unit of measurement for evaluating data storage in various computing environments, including computer systems, networks, external USB devices, hard drives, and other software or hardware components.
