Layer-1 Blockchain
Layer-1 blockchain typically refers to the main blockchain network protocol, such as Ethereum or Bitcoin. This term originates from its relationship with Layer-2 scaling solutions, which encompass state channels, rollups, nested blockchains, and plasma sidechains. Layer-1 blockchains serve as the primary network to which Layer-2 scaling solutions attach, enhancing scalability and transaction throughput. They are often referred to as the parent chain or root chain.
