Decentralized Identifier (DID)
A decentralized identifier (DID) is a form of digital identification commonly used on public blockchain networks. DIDs enable users to verify and utilize their identities without relying on centralized authorities, identity providers, or related third parties. This is achieved through the use of an identity wallet that employs key-pair cryptography to verify a person’s identity. An interesting application of DIDs is the ability to create separate identifiers that share specific data with particular online entities. For example, one can verify their nationality without revealing their name or date of birth (DOB).
