Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) denotes the capability of a blockchain network to achieve consensus and maintain operation even in the presence of unresponsive or dishonest nodes. It resolves the Byzantine Generals’ Problem, a challenge that arises when reliable agreement is required among parties despite the presence of unreliable participants. The majority of widely adopted blockchain consensus mechanisms exhibit Byzantine Fault Tolerance.
