Bitcoin is a blockchain network that features its own native cryptocurrency, also known as bitcoin (BTC). As the first-ever blockchain and cryptocurrency, it holds a prominent position within the wider crypto ecosystem. Bitcoin was established in 2009 and introduced the Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, a technology used to achieve agreement in a decentralized network.
