ASIC-Resistance
ASIC-resistance is a feature implemented in some Proof-of-Work (PoW) blockchains to prevent dominance by application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) miners. It aims to promote equitable mining participation by retail miners while maintaining decentralization. This is achieved through custom mining algorithms or periodic algorithm changes to hinder the development of profitable ASIC miners. However, despite the intention to be ASIC-resistant, several blockchains have been overcome by ASIC miners, despite the implemented designs and countermeasures.
